Timothy Dutton QC
Timothy Dutton QC was called in 1979, taking silk in 1998. He practices from Fountain Court Chambers. His areas of practice include Commercial, Public Law and Professional Negligence. He is recommended in directories in these areas, described as a “serious silk who…blazes a trail for others to follow”.
He is one of the pioneers of advocacy training establishing the Keble Advanced Course in Oxford, internationally recognized for its excellence. The working party he chaired recommended establishing the Advocacy Training Council under whose guidance all advocacy teaching is undertaken for the Bar.
He was Leader of the South Eastern Circuit from 2004 to 2006, becoming heavily involved in Legal Aid issues more recently as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Bar’s Carter Response Group. He has argued strongly for better Legal Aid schemes to serve the public and provide fair pay for the profession, which he believes should attract the most talented into Criminal Law, Family and publicly funded civil law.
He is a member of the Commercial Bar Association, Administrative Law Bar Association and Liberty. He is a Bencher of Middle Temple, and sits as a Recorder.
