Family Law Bar Association

More than any other area of practice, family law involves the resolution of disputes which affect people's private lives here and now. Invariably clients are facing significant practical changes in their lives and often at times of major personal crisis. Litigation conducted against this background tends therefore to be charged with emotion.

The Family Law Bar Association (FLBA) is a large and thriving Association with nearly 2000 barrister members. It holds regular conferences, meeting and social events throughout the country, frequently in partnership with the Solicitors Family Law Association and often organised through its active regional membership which has permanent representatives in all the main Bar and Court Centres.

Since 1992, it has published annual at a Glance, a highly successful ready reckoner containing essential material and tables for use in financial cases. It has also been associated with the publication and computer program on the Child Support Acts, Child’s Pay.

The Association produces a stimulating and informative newsletter, Family Affairs, to keep members up to date and informed about events around the country and the more important changes in the law. It is circulated to every member and to the judiciary who hear family cases.

The Association plays an important consultative role with the Lord Chancellor’s Department, the Law Commission and in all other areas of family law reform and practice.
