All Party Parliamentary Group for Legal and Constitutional Affairs
The Bar Council and the Law Society provide the secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group for Legal and Constitutional Affairs. The Bar Council support is via Weber Shandwick Public Affairs. The group, which is chaired by Lord Brennan QC (a former Chairman of the Bar), focuses on topics of interest from the new Ministry of Justice through to the Government's proposed constitutional reforms.
The group has held a series of meetings in the last year, including a summer reception in May 2007. Topics of meetings have included Zimbabwe and the rule of law, at which the President of the Zimbabwe Law Society, Beatrice Mtetwa, spoke; and Constitutional Reform, at which Joshua Rozenberg, the Telegraph's Legal Editor, spoke.
The next meeting of the group will take place on Tuesday 1 July 2008, at 6.30pm at One Bird Cage Walk, Westminster.
