The Access to the Bar Committee reports to the Legal Services Committee. The Terms of Reference are:
a. To keep under review the provisions of the Code of Conduct permitting public access to the Bar, issue guidance as appropriate and recommend to the BSB any necessary changes to the rules or the procedures of the Committee;
b. To consider applications by organisations and individuals to be designated under the Licensed Access scheme and decide whether or not to grant such designation;
c. Where appropriate to approach organisations and individuals which might be suitable for designation under the scheme to encourage them to apply;
d. To exercise on behalf of the Bar Council its powers in relation to all licensed access matters under the Licensed Access Recognition Regulations.
The Access to the Bar Committee organised the A2B day on 27 November 2008. As part of this day, an independent report was commissioned by Professor John Flood of the University of Westminster. The report is available on this website. A summary is also available here.
