Equality and diversity
Barristers come from all backgrounds and all walks of life.
The Bar Council, together with the Bar Standards Board, is
committed to fulfilling its statutory equality duties. We are
working to widen access to all with the ability and potential to be
successful at the Bar, and to encourage a diverse and inclusive
profession that values the growing diversity of background of its
membership.
The Equality and Diversity Section is located within the Central
Services Division. It supports the work of the Equality and
Diversity Committee and provides advice to the Chairman and Bar
Council and to the staff of the Representation and Policy and
Central Services Directorates. It offers advice to members of the
profession, pupils and students and a programme of diversity
training, lectures, seminars and events.
