Attorney General’s Equality and Diversity Expectations Statement for Civil and Criminal Panel Counsel and their Chambers

Reporting format for second and subsequent progress reports 2010 and beyond
This template should completed by large sets (45+) every year commencing in 2010 (by 1 October); by medium sets (20 to 45) every two years commencing in 2011 (by 1 October); and by smaller sets (under 20) every  three years commencing in 2012 (by 1 October).

1. Equality and diversity policy and actions

This should be a summary of the key actions taken to implement the equality and diversity policy.  It should summarise the results and outcomes of the key actions taken.  It should provide a clear overview of the main actions to progress equality and diversity in the reporting period.  It should indicate where the AGO or TSol can obtain further information if required.

2. Equalities monitoring and under-representation

This should be a summary of progress made in the reporting period to maintain or secure a representative chambers in terms of pupils, members and staff by disability, ethnicity and gender.  It should report progress against starting positions in terms of gender, ethnicity and disability composition, and against any objectives set for the reporting period.  It could be structured as follows:

Chambers may wish to break down these categories further by age or length of call.

It should summarise any further action to be taken to make further progress as regards maintaining or securing a representative workforce.  It should also summarise the progress from any positive action undertaken in the reporting period. 

3. Training

This should be a paragraph which summarises the numbers of members, staff and pupils trained and the topics on which they were trained and dates when training took place.  It should also summarise any further actions to be taken.  As above for further information.

4. Equal access to and fair allocation of work

This should include a summary paragraph on Chambers’ monitoring of access to and allocation of work, any conclusions drawn and action taken.  It should indicate where the AGO and TSol can obtain more detailed information on Chambers’ activity in this area if required

5. Handling complaints


This should include a paragraph which summarise the numbers of complaints of discrimination and/or harassment received in the reporting period; the numbers upheld and any improvement actions taken or planned.
