Meet the team

The Bar Council Communications team act as press officers and provide advice on the Bar Council's internal and external communications and public affairs activities.

Head of Communications

Toby joined the Bar Council in 2010, as its first Head of Communications, from the leading global law firm, Linklaters LLP, where he advised the firm's Finance and Projects division on marketing communications.

Prior to that, Toby was a PR and Public Affairs Consultant at PR agency Weber Shandwick, where he worked with the Bar Council and on a number of accounts for law firms and sets of chambers. He also provided Litigation PR advice to a range of clients.

Toby has worked for Members of Parliament in Westminster and also worked for a Member of Congress in Washington D.C.

Toby is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, was nominated for the Public Affairs News 'Newcomer of the Year' Award in 2007 and was named in PR Week's '29 under 29' feature, listing the 29 most promising young professionals in the PR industry for 2010.

Toby is a non-practising barrister and was Called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn.

Communications Manager

Sarah joined the Bar Council in May 2012 as Communications Manager. Previously, she was a Marketing Manager at the world’s largest property adviser, CBRE, where she delivered marketing and communications campaigns for its London and Real Estate Finance teams.

Prior to that, Sarah was an Assistant Marketing Manager at Sovereign Wealth Fund, St Martins, where she was responsible for the marketing of the Fund’s portfolio of commercial and residential property, as well as the company’s corporate marketing strategy.

Sarah has also worked at global accountancy firm, PwC, where she undertook a secondment to its  Global Brand team in New York, and Barclays Bank.

Sarah is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and has an MA in Journalism Studies.

Communications Officer

Sarah joined the Bar Council in July 2012 as Communications Officer. Previously, she worked in the Corporate and Financial team at global PR firm Edelman, in the London office. In this role, Sarah delivered corporate media relations work for FTSE 500 companies as well as UK property clients, and has experience in delivering national CSR campaigns.


Prior to that, Sarah worked in the communications team at global FMCG Cadbury. She assisted on the internal integration of the Kraft Foods takeover, as well as on projects around Cadbury’s Olympics sponsorship deal.

Sarah has an MA in Geography and Spanish from the University of St Andrews and an MSc in International Marketing from King’s College London.
