  • 10 October 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, is set to stage its 26th Annual Conference on Saturday 5 November at London’s Hilton Metropole. Offering a wide array of speakers and workshops, a diverse range of delegates will come together to consider the conference theme, “Shaping the future: A modern Bar for a modern market”.

  • 7 October 2011 - Nichola Higgins, Chairman of the Bar Council’s Young Barristers’ Committee (YBC), will encourage young barristers, pupils and students to consider the future of the profession and seize opportunities to diversify their practice area at its Annual Conference on Saturday 8 October.

  • 6 October 2011 - On 3 August, the Bar Council posted a news item on its website updating the profession on the payment of advocates' criminal graduated fees by the Legal Services Commission (LSC). That news item detailed efforts being made by the LSC to help resolve payment problems.

  • 30 September 2011 - Speaking at a fringe event at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester, the Chairman of the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, will warn of the significant threat posed to access to justice by the Government’s proposed legal aid cuts.

  • 29 September 2011 - Towards the end of the year, committee membership is reviewed and new appointments are made to our committees. This year we are looking for volunteers for our committees.

  • 28 September 2011 - The Bar Council is still inviting applications for the 2011 Legal Reporting Awards.
