    30 November 2011 - The Law Reform Committee of the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, held its annual lecture on Tuesday 29 November. The Rt. Hon. Sir Nicholas Wall, President of the Family Division and Head of Family Justice for England and Wales, spoke on “Changing the Culture: The role of the Bar and Bench in the management of cases involving children”, calling for changes to the traditional management of cases to be applied by barristers and the judiciary.

  • 29 November 2011 - Update for the profession: The Employed Barristers’ Committee will host a seminar on “Dispute resolution provisions in commercial contracts” by Dr Robert Gaitskell QC of Keating Chambers on Thursday 1 December 2011, 18:00-20:00 at the Bar Council Offices, 289-293 High Holborn, London WC1V 7HZ.

  • 28 November 2011 - Update for the profession: the Judicial Appointment Commission is dry running the current Recorder (Crime) qualifying test on 6 December at 10:00 and 13:00 and would like more barristers to come forward to participate in the trial of this test.

  • 21 November 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, is sending a delegation led by the Chairman of the Bar, Peter Lodder QC, on a business development visit to China this week.

  • 21 November 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has written to Peers to voice its concerns around the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill (‘the Bill’), which is scheduled to receive its Second Reading in the House of Lords later today.

  • 21 November 2011 - Update for the profession: the Bar Council is receiving reports that chambers are being approached by a company called Information Compliance Services offering to register chambers with the Information Commissioner under the Data Protection Act for a fee of £150. The cost of registering directly with the Information Commissioner is £35.
