  • 20 April 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, will today host a farewell reception for the Lord Chancellor’s Training Scheme (LCTS), which is coming to an end after more than 20 years of Ministry of Justice funding. However, as part of its continuing international engagement work, the Bar Council has announced that it is developing a chambers-based training programme for young Chinese lawyers, drawing on the best elements of the LCTS.

  • 20 April 2011 - Alternative Dispute Resolution Scheme to be Launched by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry A delegation from the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, is attending the “National Conference on Proposed Amendments in the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanism”, at which the Alternative Dispute Resolution Cell (ADRC) of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) will be launched.

  • 7 April 2011 - The iconic Court One of the Old Bailey will this evening play host to the inaugural ‘Bar Debate’, arranged by the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales.

  • 1 April 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has welcomed the publication of the interim Family Justice Review, chaired by David Norgrove. It has urged the Government to defer any changes to legal aid in family justice until the detail of this interim report has been considered, and fully consulted on, and the final report is published in the autumn.

  • 1 April 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has today established a working group to explore the viability of a Contingency Legal Aid Fund (CLAF) in the wake of the Government's response to its consultation on civil litigation costs.
