  • 28 July 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has today welcomed the confirmation from the Bar Standards Board (BSB) that the date from which pupillages may be formally offered will not be deferred from Tuesday 2 August 2011, and will go ahead as planned.

  • 27 July 2011 - With one year to go until the opening of the Games, Sport Resolutions, the Bar Council, Law Society and the British Association of Sport and Law have today announced the names of the 17 barristers’ chambers and solicitors' firms and the 19 individual advocates who have been appointed to the London 2012 Pro Bono Legal Advice and Representation Service.

  • 26 July 2011 - The Crown Prosecution Service has asked the Bar Council to remind barristers who are filling in CPS Panel application forms, to adhere to the word limits specified on the forms.

  • 14 July 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has welcomed the finding of the Justice Select Committee’s report on the Operation of the Family Courts, published today, which says that legal aid reforms risk an unmanageable rise in DIY justice, as vulnerable people are forced to go to family courts alone as litigants in person.

  • 12 July 2011 - Peter Lodder QC, Chairman of the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has called for MPs to protect access to justice ahead of his appearance before the Public Bill Committee this afternoon.

  • 8 July 2011 - Peter Lodder QC, Chairman of the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, will consider how the profession can respond to the proposals set out in the Government’s Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill at the Bar Council’s Contracting Conference. The Conference will take place in London tomorrow (Saturday 9 July).

  • 8 July 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, is launching a week-long programme of events to promote better access to the profession. This will include a one-day conference in Birmingham for sixth-formers interested in a career at the Bar, and the fifth annual Bar Placement Scheme, organised in conjunction with the Social Mobility Foundation.
