  • 28 June 2012 - Update for the profession: the Treasury Solicitor’s Department invites expressions of interest from junior barristers wishing to represent the Secretary of State for the Home Department at appeal hearings in the Greater London area, before the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal in the place of Home Office Presenting Officers. Appointed counsel are likely to receive instructions over a period of three months.

  • 20 June 2012 - The Bar Council has responded to the Welsh Government’s consultation on whether there should be a separate legal jurisdiction for Wales.

  • 19 June 2012 - Update for the profession: Due to administrative issues, the Bar Council is working through a large back-log of public access registration forms.

  • 13 June 2012 - Michael Todd QC, the Chairman of the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has expressed deep concern to the Chairman of the Libyan Interim National Council about the detention of four staff members of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

  • 11 June 2012 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has today launched a new training programme for young Chinese lawyers, incorporating the best elements of the Lord Chancellor’s Training Scheme (LCTS), which ended last April after 20 years of Ministry of Justice funding.

  • 8 June 2012 - Update for the profession: the Ministry of Justice has invited interested parties to respond to the legal services section of the Government’s “Red Tape Challenge” consultation, identifying which regulations they believe should be improved, retained or scrapped.
