Treasury Solicitor's Department seeks junior barristers

Update for the profession: the Treasury Solicitor's Department
invites expressions of interest from junior barristers wishing to
represent the Secretary of State for the Home Department at appeal
hearings in the Greater London area, before the Immigration and
Asylum Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal in the place of Home
Office Presenting Officers. Appointed counsel are likely to receive
instructions over a period of three months.
Applicants must be barristers who are either second six pupils,
squatters or tenants within two years from the end of pupillage
(i.e. who are not eligible to apply for the Attorney General panels
of civil counsel).

Applications should be submitted by Wednesday 4 July 2012 by
16:00, and should be accompanied by:
• A one page covering letter outlining why the applicant is
interested in acting for the Home Secretary in these cases,
and
• A CV of no more than two sides of A4.
Applicants should be available to appear in the First tier
Tribunal by mid-July (although a later start date might be
negotiable).
Second six pupils and squatters will be paid at the rate of £25
per hour or £125 per day. Tenants will be paid at the rate of £45
per hour or £225 per day.
Applications are to be submitted in hard copy only, and three
copies of each document should be provided. Applications should be
