Women in the City Awards Legal Category opens for nominations

3 July 2013

Nominations have opened for the legal category of Women in the City's 'Women of Achievements Awards', endorsed again this year by the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales.

Shortlisted nominees will be interviewed on Monday 14 October by a judging panel including Maura McGowan QC, Chairman of the Bar Council; Lucinda Orr, Chairman of the Bar Association of Commerce, Finance and Industry; and Katy Dowell, Acting News Editor at The Lawyer.

The Awards, presented to eight category winners and one overall winner, aim to highlight and recognise formally the outstanding contribution which women make to the economy, and to identify those who are actively promoting and encouraging the progress of other women above and beyond their everyday job.

Maura McGowan QC,Chairman of the Bar, said:

"Endorsing the Women in the City Award for the second year running is something I am very proud to be continuing in my year as Chairman. This Award gives us another opportunity to showcase some of the exceptionally talented lawyers working in London today.

"With nominations now open, I would like to encourage anyone who has felt particularly inspired or encouraged by a female colleague to put them forward for this prestigious Award."

Gwen Rhys, CEO & Founder, Women in the City, said:

"We're delighted that once again the Bar Council is endorsing the legal category. With their backing last year Women in the City received an overwhelming response from the legal sector with extremely high calibre nominations being entered into the Award programme, and making the judging process all the more challenging. Also, the winner of the legal category went on to win the overall Woman of Achievement Award in 2012. Our Woman of Achievement Awards provide an excellent platform to recognise and reward talented women in law."
