  • 28 March 2013 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has welcomed the Legal Services Board's (LSB) formal approval of rule changes to public access and public access training. The changes will allow public access in areas eligible for legal aid and will also allow barristers under three years' Call to be directly accessible to clients. There are also changes to public access training requirements.

  • 28 March 2013 - The Bar Council offices will be closed over the Easter period from 16:00 on Thursday 28 March until Wednesday 3 April 2013.   • 26 March 2013 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has responded to this morning’s Written Ministerial Statement on Court and Tribunal reform by the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Chris Grayling. This comes a day after a Bar Council Working Group published its own recommendations for civil litigation reform.

The paper, written at the Bar Council’s request by Sir Sydney Kentridge QC, responds to criticisms made in a Legal Services Board (LSB) report on the future of the cab rank rule.

  • 25 March 2013 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has today published a discussion document on Reforming Civil Litigation, which reflects the recommendations of a Working Group including the chairs of the Chancery Bar Association, Commercial Bar Association and the Technology and Construction Bar Association.

  • 18 March 2013 - The Citizenship Foundation, in partnership with the Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, Scotland’s Faculty of Advocates, the Bar Library of Northern Ireland, the four Inns of Court and the six Circuits of England and Wales, are preparing for the 22nd annual final of the Bar National Mock Trial Competition on Saturday 23 March at the Royal Courts of Justice.
