Update to the profession: To all practising self-employed barristers over seven years’ call: Bar Council 2014 elections

8 November 2013

Update to the profession: The recently concluded process of electing members to the 2014 Bar Council failed to yield sufficient candidates in the category of self-employed barristers over seven years' call; there are now two vacancies. In line with Part II, 7(d) of the Bar Council's constitution, these casual vacancies will now be filled by appointment by the Bar Council and the term of those appointed members will be one year.

Expressions of interest are therefore invited from practising, self-employed barristers over seven years' call who wish to join Bar Council for 2014. All candidates must hold a valid practising certificate. Candidates are asked to submit a short statement of no more than 200 words to demonstrate their suitability for the post, by 6 December 2013, to Elections@BarCouncil.org.uk. These statements will be circulated to members of the 2014 Bar Council and it is anticipated that a decision will be made at the Bar Council meeting on 25 January 2014.

Further information regarding membership of Bar Council can be found in the Constitution, here. Alternatively, please email Elections@BarCouncil.org.uk with any queries you may have.
