  • 27 September 2013 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has today warned that the Government’s legal aid proposals will reduce human rights and may end up costing more than they intend to save. In a written submission to the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) call for evidence on the human rights implications of the proposals in the ‘Transforming Legal Aid’ Consultation Paper, the Bar Council picks apart the Government’s evidence base for reform.

  • 25 September 2013 - The final candidate list for the elections to the 2014 Bar Council have now been published.

  • 20 September 2013 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has today published the second edition of its annual report, ‘Representing the Bar’, focusing on its representational activities, which details performance against the three-year Strategic and Business Plan, which the Bar Council approved in 2011.

  • 19 September 2013 - Further to the earlier notice of the elections for the 2014 Bar Council, an additional vacancy in the category of self-employed Queen’s Counsel has arisen (two-year term).

  • 17 September 2013 - The Bar Council would like to issue an apology to the LSB and a correction of figures stated in error in a press release entitled: Bar Council calls for 'new approach to regulation' publishing alternative model.

  • 16 September 2013 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, will make its case to parliamentarians across the political spectrum to protect access to justice and highlight the important contribution that the Bar makes to civic life and the economy at the Annual Party Conferences.
