  • 10 October 2014 - Due to ongoing interest, the Bar Council has extended the deadline for the 2014 Legal Reporting Awards to 17 October 2014. The Bar Council set up the annual Legal Reporting Awards 23 years ago to recognise print and broadcast journalists whose work contributes to a greater public understanding of legal issues.

  • 3 October 2014 - The Bar Council has warned that families across England & Wales have felt the full brunt of the Government’s civil legal aid cuts, with a drop of 15,000 per quarter, equivalent to 60,000 a year, in the number of people receiving legal aid for family cases which go to court.

  • 1 October 2014 - A service today at Westminster Abbey marked the Opening of the Legal Year, one of the most celebrated events in the legal profession’s calendar. The service follows on from a programme of events arranged by the Bar Council and The Law Society for legal practitioners from around the world.
