The annual Authorisation to Practise (AtP) process is now open. During the process, barristers will be able to:

  • Update current practising/contact details

  • Verify practising status

  • Pay the practising certificate fee

  • Support the Bar and receive member benefits by renewing or signing up to the Bar Representation Fee (BRF)

  • Declare that you have obtained and paid for adequate indemnity insurance

  • Support the Bar Pro Bono Unit

  • Sign a declaration of truth, which is designed to ensure understanding of the process and new system, and more.

The renewal will be completed via a quick and easy online system, Barrister Connect. A step-by-step video explaining how to use Barrister Connect is available on the Bar Council's YouTube Channel. You should have received your ID number from the Bar Council. You will need this number to complete the AtP process. If you do not receive one, contact the Bar Council Records Office at [email protected] Please be aware that the process must be completed by 31 March 2017.
