  • 15 September 2012 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has published its first ever Annual Report at its Annual General Meeting, focusing solely on its representational activities. Representing the Bar reports the Bar Council's performance against its three-year Strategic and Business Plan, which the Bar Council approved last year.

  • 11 September 2012 - Update for the profession: on 27 September from 15:00 to 15:30, the Bar Council will be holding its first ever live online communication session on Twitter. The Chairman of the Bar, Michael Todd QC, will personally answer any concerns, questions and thoughts about the profession which are tweeted to @TheBarCouncil.

  • 6 September 2012 - Update for the profession: the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Bar Council of England and Wales will be held at 10.30 on Saturday 15 September 2012.

  • 4 September 2012 - Update for the profession: Further to the 22 August 2012 news update regarding the annual elections for the 2013 Bar Council, the election timetable and nomination forms are now available to view and download.

  • 4 September 2012 - Update for the profession: 'Protecting free speech: A public interest defence for the media?’. A joint debate organised by the Law Reform Committee of the Bar Council and the Criminal Bar Association will take place on 20 September 2012 at 18:00 in the Large Pension Room at Gray’s Inn.

  • 4 September 2012 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has called on the new Secretary of State for Justice, Chris Grayling, to put access to justice top of his priorities as he prepares to tackle competing claims on departmental resources.

  • 24 August 2012 - Update for the profession: the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Bar of England and Wales will be held at 10.30 on Saturday 15 September 2012 in the VC Room of the Bar Council (289-293 High Holborn, London). It will be preceded by a meeting of the Bar Council.

  • 22 August 2012 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has urged the Committee considering the draft Communications Data Bill to recommend protection for legal communications before any new interception powers are granted.
