21 November 2011 - The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has written to Peers to voice its concerns around the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill (‘the Bill’), which is scheduled to receive its Second Reading in the House of Lords later today.

21 November 2011 - Update for the profession: the Bar Council is receiving reports that chambers are being approached by a company called Information Compliance Services offering to register chambers with the Information Commissioner under the Data Protection Act for a fee of £150. The cost of registering directly with the Information Commissioner is £35.

5 November 2011 - Shereener Browne of Garden Court Chambers has won the 15th annual Sydney Elland Goldsmith Bar Pro Bono Award, which will be presented by the Attorney General at the Annual Bar Conference on Saturday 5 November.

5 November 2011 - Caroline Binham, legal correspondent for the Financial Times, and the BBC World Service have won the Bar Council’s Legal Reporting Awards 2011 in the print and broadcast categories respectively. The awards will be presented by writer and broadcaster Simon Fanshawe at the 26th Annual Bar Conference on Saturday 5 November.
