Important information about your Bar Membership Card
- Your Bar Membership Card will be issued annually on payment of your Members’ Services Fee and will normally be valid until the expiry date shown on the card.
- You may be asked to present this card to take advantage of some products, services and discounts.
- The card remains the property of the Bar Council at all times and is returnable on demand.
- The card is not evidence of practising rights and must not be held out as such. Misuse of the card in this, or any other way, will leave you open to disciplinary action by the Bar Standards Board.
Q. What happens if my Bar Membership Card is lost or damaged?
A. For a replacement card, contact the Records Department on the number below and we can provide you with a new card for an administration fee of £10.
Q. Does this replace my practising certificate?
A. No, this card is not evidence of practising rights. You should not use the card to ‘hold yourself out’ as a barrister. Misuse of the card in this, or any other way, will leave you open to disciplinary action by the Bar Standards Board.
Q. What happens if my contact details change?
If your contact details change or you move Chambers, please contact the Records Department on 020 7242 0934 or email records@barcouncil.org.uk .
Q. How do I find out more about the card’s benefits?
A. You can visit the website or telephone Member Services on 020 7611 1329. We may contact you as and when new benefits become available.
Q. Who can use the card?
A. The card is not transferrable and can only be used by the individual named on the front of the card.
