Regional Access to Justice: Building Norms and Jurisprudence in San Jose, Strasbourg and Tanzania
Organised by the Bar Human Rights Committee
Insurmountable obstacles to pursuing justice for victims of human rights abuses arise in many parts of the world, including the inability to enforce regional human rights agreements. With the introduction of the new African Court of Justice and Human Rights, adding to the work of the Inter-American Court and the European Court, an additional layer of regional protection seems to be on the horizon. This workshop
will examine how effectively these institutions work to protect human rights; the likely contours of future interchange between the different systems to break down obstacles to pursuing justice; and the role the Bar of England and Wales can play in the development and support of these regional court structures.
