The Treatment of Women in the Criminal Justice System Victims and Perpetrators
Organised by the Association of Women Barristers
Examining a range of recent initiatives, this workshop considers the position of women throughout the criminal justice system - is the balance right? For example, is equal treatment appropriately accorded to men and women, or did the 2007 Corston Review correctly conclude that women are treated within a system largely designed by men for men? Does this result in inequality of outcome? The Solicitor General spearheads a campaign to rectify popular jury misconceptions about rape, and despite new sentencing provisions seeking to address the gender balance, is it now time also to review penal measures to consider domestic violence, anger management and substance abuse by those with disabilities? Join the debate and enhance your knowledge and ability to ensure effective representation for all.
