Legal Services Commission says 140K figure for average family earnings was an error
23 May 2008
The Legal Services Commission has written to the Times to make it clear that the 140K quoted as an average figure for family earnings at the Bar was incorrect, and that this figure was not given at the press briefing.
In a letter to the Chairman, Tim Dutton, Richard Collins explains:
"There has clearly been some misunderstanding in the interpretation of the figures that has resulted in this information being published.
We are keen to ensure that the correct position is made clear and therefore I have written to The Times. I attach a copy of the letter that has been sent.
You made clear at our meeting the concern that had been caused by this particular piece of information and I hope that our response will address that concern. "
