Bar Council shares experience on easing financial barriers to the professions
17 June 2010
David Pittaway QC, Chair of the Bar Council’s Training for the Bar Committee and the Neuberger Monitoring and Implementation Group, addressed the Gateways to the Professions Collaborative Forum, chaired by RIBA President Ruth Reed, on the subject of the Bar Loans Scheme, yesterday.
In Alan Milburn’s report ‘Unleashing Aspiration: The Final Report of the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions’, the Bar Loans Scheme was singled out as a successful example of privately brokered financing for those studying for professional qualifications. The scheme has been well received by representatives from other professional bodies.
The Bar Council and the four Inns of Court worked together to set up the Scheme as part of a wider effort to ensure that no one with the necessary talent is prevented from coming to the Bar solely by financial need.
