4,000 cash awaits the winner of the Law Reform Essay Competition: deadline for entries approaches

The Bar Council Scholarship Trust is sponsoring the Law Reform Essay Competition for the fourth year in a row. The deadline for entries of 10 October 2008 is drawing near and students and pupils are urged to get their entries in.
The results of the Competition will be announced at the Law Reform Lecture on 20 November 2008. The Competition will be judged by the Chairman of the Law Reform Committee, Stephen Worthington QC, with input from the vice chairs, Richard Drabble QC, Alison Green and Tom Dumont.
The Attorney General, Baroness Scotland will present the overall winner with a cheque for £4,000. Other prizes include £2,500 for the runner up, £1,500 for the best entry written by a student studying for the postgraduate diploma in law and £1,000 for the runner up in this category.
The Attorney General, Baroness Scotland said:
“Taking part in this competition is incredibly significant for law students as it allows them to examine current legislation and to engage and be better informed in legal developments. It is an opportunity to shine and I hope many will take it.”
The Chairman of the Bar Council Chairman Tim Dutton QC said:
“The Law Reform Essay competition offers some of the sharpest minds studying for the Bar an opportunity to demonstrate how they use and develop their legal knowledge, analysis and imagination. The Bar Council has focused heavily in recent years on increasing access to the profession for those from all backgrounds who have the ability to succeed at the Bar. This competition is another way for aspiring barristers to prove that they have what it takes and I wish everyone entering the best of luck.”
