Zoe O'Sullivan QC

Chambers: One Essex Court

Areas of Practice: Commercial, Chancery Division

Year of Call: 1993

Year of Silk: 2015

Zoe O'Sullivan QC attended a comprehensive school in North London, and then Oxford. She was the first lawyer in my family. O'Sullivan QC was called to the Bar in 1993, and took silk in 2015 on her first application. She has a largely commercial practice, and greatly enjoys the increased opportunities in silk. It took a long time for her to muster the courage to apply for silk, and she wishes that she had a mentor herself, as she found the application process challenging in a number of respects. As a result, she would be happy to share the lessons learned.

As a woman (very much in the minority in her chambers), and a working mother who has taken time off to have children, she is particularly keen to encourage other women to consider applying for silk. She actively believes in the great importance of increasing diversity at the Bar, and believes it can be achieved more quickly than some pessimists would suggest. Also, she currently has one long-term mentee under the mentoring scheme set up by the Middle Temple Hall Committee.
