• 21 February 2012 - In 2012, the Bar Council produced a briefing note on Legal Professional Privilege to explain how the RIPA and the 2009 House of Lords judgement had diminished the protection of this legal principle. The Bar Council proposed that this should be rectified via primary legislation, through an amendment to the Draft Communications Data Bill. Baroness Hamwee had indicated her intention to use the House of Lords' scrutiny of the Justice and Security Bill to remedy this deficit.

  • 1 February 2012 - During the passage of the Protection of Freedoms Bill in 2012, the Bar Council proposed a new clause to protect Legal Professional Privilege.
