Keep up to date on the Bar Council's work in ensuring justice and the interests of the profession are represented and heard in Parliament.

Parliamentary Update: February 2020

It has been a busy few weeks since Parliament has returned. The Bar Council met with Sir Bob Neill MP (Conservative, Bromley & Chislehurst) who has been re-elected Chair of the Justice Select Committee to discuss potential Committee inquiries and update him on our current priorities.

We also met with Bambos Charalambous MP (Labour, Enfield) a former member of the Justice Select Committee who has recently been appointed Justice Shadow Minister had a debate on Release Under Investigation yesterday which can be read here.

Amanda Pinto QC, Chair of the Bar attended an All Party Parliamentary Group of Legal Aid meeting and spoke to a packed room highlighting the need to improve family legal aid as it denies people access to justice and has resulted in a rise of people being unrepresented in court. Parliament is in recess from 13-24 February.
