    Individuals acting as whistle-blowers and clients seeking legal advice are exercising the most fundamental constitutional rights enjoyed by the British public, but the Investigatory Powers Bill poses a real threat to their safety and confidentiality. The Bar Council, National Union of Journalists, and the Law Society have organised a joint event in parliament on Monday 11 April starting at 17.00 in committee room 11 to discuss the risks posed by the Bill.

    Following the decision of the United Kingdom electorate on 23 June to leave the European Union, the Bar Council has established a Brexit Working Group, chaired by Hugh Mercer QC. The working group will initially consider the possible implications for the profession of leaving the European Union and is holding a meeting next Wednesday, 13th July, for barristers to highlight their concerns with the group.
