The Chair of the Young Barristers' committee, Athena Markides, invites you to this annual half-day workshop aimed at young practitioners who strive to continuously develop skills and grow their practice.

This year's workshop focuses on strengthening the skills required for young barristers at the modern Bar. The programme has been designed to provide you with a wider understanding of how to effectively manage and develop a healthy practice. The day will include sessions on legal developments, providing practical guidance within the specialist areas of crime, family and civil.

How to work with clerks to develop your practice

Panel discussion, providing insight on:

  • Effective ways to build a junior practice with your clerk
  • Advice on 'when' and 'why' to use your clerk 
  • Work allocation and fairness
  • Transparency of work
  • How clerks view wellbeing for themselves and for junior practitioners

During the session you'll get input from a panel of practice managers and clerks from a range of practice areas. Discussions will aim to ensure you build a successful, continually developing practice.

The Junior Bar: Putting wellbeing first 

Panel discussion, providing insight on:

  • Achieving a healthy working life
  • Implementing your own best practices 
  • Harassment
  • Judicial bullying
  • The session will give you the chance to learn from senior practitioners on the importance of developing a healthy practice and raise your awareness of the key issues.

The event will be followed by a drinks reception, giving you the chance to network, share your experiences and explore ways forward.
