What is it the Bar Council does? Here's a glimpse of just some of the work we have done in May 2016.   

  1. The Bar Council added its wellbeing experience to a new  wellbeing taskforce for the wider legal sector 

  2. Chairman of the Bar, Chantal-Aimée Doerries QC, hits back at Legal Service Board's support for paid,  unregulated McKenzie Friends 

  3. The  Direct Access Portal launched its own blog page aimed at raising awareness of direct access barrister to consumers and SMEs 

  4. New  Bar Council officers were elected for 2017 

  5. The Bar Council has so far raised more than £1500 for the London Legal Support Trust, the Free Representation Unit and the Bar Pro Bono Unit by taking part in the  London Legal Walk 

  6. An Open Forum with Lord Justice Briggs was hosted by the Bar Council. Young Barristers' Committee members also met with Briggs LJ to discuss the young bar's concerns regarding his Online Court proposals 

  7. The first vulnerable witness lead facilitator training day was held by the Inns of Court College of Advocacy and the Bar Council 

  8. The Bar Council gave its response to the  Queen's Speech 

  9. The Chairman of the Bar tells the  Daily Express that the criminal justice system is at breaking point 

  10. The Annual Bar & Young Bar Conference programme was launched.
