Commenting on the issue of racism in the barristers' profession, Chair of the Bar, Derek Sweeting QC, said:

“Racism should not be tolerated at the Bar. All barristers must conduct themselves appropriately and regulatory measures are in place to ensure that happens. The vast majority of barristers uphold the high standards which are expected of them. Barristers who fail to meet those professional standards can face serious sanctions from our regulator, the Bar Standards Board. Our profession’s reputation is put at risk by offensive comments so I encourage barristers and those who work with barristers to report any inappropriate behaviour and comments either formally to the BSB or anonymously via the Bar Council’s Talk to Spot app. We all have a part to play in tackling racism.”
