Guildford Chambers is looking to expand its civil section, and looking to recruit a probationary tenant with a view to full tenancy. A successful candidate will have a mixed Court and paperwork practice, with a nominated mentor and a strong support network.

The clerking team have been in place for many years, and are well liked and highly regarded. Being part of a regional set offers a unique opportunity to develop a practice in a specific area of civil work more quickly. At Guildford Chambers we have individual tenants who specialise in either Landlord and Tenant, ToLATA, Construction, Employment and Personal Injury, as well as a vast array of general property related, and contractual disputes.

Guildford Chambers has a good client base with repeat instructions from solicitors and a strong tie to the judicial cohort in Guildford, and Reading, and also regularly attend Courts across London, and the South. Chambers is a short walk to the station with excellent transport links.

The probationary tenancy is with a strong view to full tenancy, with consideration given to offering after 3 months.

About the candidate:

A successful candidate should have a strong academic record, and be able to demonstrate their ability to advise in writing and draft skeleton arguments and pleadings.

Applicants should have had court experience in one of the civil areas chambers covers, with a view to taking on a variety of other civil work. There will be a strong support network across the civil team with a recognised mentor, and open-door policy for any advice needed. Starting out junior tenants can be in Court most days but Chambers also has part time options for all levels of seniority.

Guildford Chambers prides itself on being friendly and approachable, and flexible in how a tenant wishes to carry out their practice. GC encourages independent development, with no requirement to be in Chambers, but equally there are plenty of social events, regular ‘work from Chambers’ days and the famous Chambers tea.
