Chief Justice Koome said last year, “jurisprudential victories have not always become lived realities”. She has dedicated her career to addressing the gulf between the written protections of the law and their realisation in practice. She has been a champion in fighting for the rights of women and children as a lawyer and establishing specialist courts to reduce the backlogs in delivering justice to survivors of gender-based violence.

Chief Justice has driven reforms aimed at addressing “legal deserts” in Kenya, accelerating digital transformation and making justice “understandable, accessible, affordable, inclusive and responsive”.

Her insights about the rule of law and what it means in reality will be illuminating to legal practitioners, judges, government officials and scholars alike.

The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception.
