What does the BRF fund?
Activities funded or partly funded by the BRF include:
- Ethics and practice support including guidance documents available through the online Ethics & Practice Hub;
- Our range of mentoring services, helping barristers throughout their careers from student advice through to maternity and parental support and securing Silk and judicial appointments;
- Research into alternative dispute resolution, and initiatives including our mediation and arbitration services;
- Research, consultation responses and work engaging the press and Parliament in high-priority areas including the Advocates Graduate Free Scheme (AGFS) and Family Very High Cost Cases (VHCCs);
- Publications and newsletters covering a range of practice area information, business and practice development guidance, and events and opportunities;
- Promotion of Direct Access and the benefits of directly instructing the Bar, and support for Direct Access barristers;
- Equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives including barristers' working lives research, and work to promote social mobility including the Bar Council's Social Mobility Advocates programme;
- Wellbeing support, resources and services including the online Wellbeing at the Bar Hub;
- Aspects of our international business development work; and
- Support to help shape the entities and business models of the future Bar.
