The Bar Council has been awarded the ISO 14001 Environmental Management certification by the British Standards Institution (BSI) for our commitment to environmental sustainability in its operations.
The certificate reflects a year of focused work to formalise environmental practices, address gaps in data management, and build staff awareness of environmental responsibilities.
It also aligns with our strategic aim of supporting a sustainable, inclusive and resilient profession, including providing advice and guidance, supporting the Bar Sustainability Network and helping barristers and chambers reduce their environmental impact.
Commenting on the achievement, Malcolm Cree CBE, Chief Executive of the Bar Council, said: “This certification is an important step in our long-term approach to sustainability. It strengthens our ability to operate responsibly and ensures we are supporting the profession with credibility and leadership.
“I am very grateful to our staff who have worked hard to integrate these standards into daily practice, and we will continue to build on this foundation as part of our wider commitment to a resilient and sustainable Bar.”
Andy Curtis, Head of Facilities and Property at the Bar Council, said: “As an organisation representing 18,000 barristers, it is important for us to demonstrate careful environmental stewardship as part of our day-to-day operations. An internationally recognised management system was the right solution for us.”
