The last 10 years has seen huge strides for collective redress across the EU and the UK with the advent of the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, the implementation of the EU Collective Redress Directive 2020/1828 and the Digital Markets Act as well as important CJEU and national jurisprudence on key concepts introduced by the Damages Directive.

The Bar Council, acting jointly with the Centre for European Law at King's College London, is proud to compare and contrast practice and procedure for opt-in and opt-out class actions and group litigation in the UK, EU States, USA and Canada. This one day conference will coordinate panels of judges, experienced practitioners, economists and policy makers to share know-how on legal developments, case management, litigation funding and strategies for issuing and defending collective proceedings across competition law, consumer law, regulatory breach, environmental and data obligations.

Specialist practitioners are invited from the EU and the UK to participate in a dynamic discussion of the latest hot topics in collective enforcement, with networking opportunities over dinner and drinks at the Inns of Court in London.

This is a unique opportunity to share learnings and expertise on collective redress across jurisdictions while creating valuable new connections.

What is collective redress?

Collective redress refers to procedural frameworks that enable groups of individuals or businesses to bring claims collectively, particularly in fields such as competition, consumer protection, product liability, data protection and environmental law. Its central purpose is to enhance access to justice by enabling the aggregation of claims that would be economically or practically unviable if pursued individually.
