23 October 2017

To all practising employed Juniors over 7 years in practice: notice of a Bar Council vacancy

Following the Bar Council elections for membership of the 2018 Bar Council, there remains a vacancy in the category of 'employed Junior over 7 years in practice'. In line with Part II, 7(d) of the Bar Council's constitution, this vacancy may now be filled by appointment. The three-year term will commence on 1 January 2018.

Expressions of interest are therefore invited from practising employed Juniors over 7 years in practice who wish to join Bar Council. All candidates must be employed juniors  who first became eligible for a full practising certificate more than 7 years before the date of their election to Bar Council. Members of the Bar Council are expected to attend Saturday morning Bar Council meetings and all candidates must hold a valid practising certificate.

Candidates are asked to submit a short statement of no more than 200 words to demonstrate their suitability for the post by 10am on Monday 6 November 2017  to Elections@BarCouncil.org.uk.

These statements will be circulated to Bar Council 2017 members who will each vote for their preferred candidate. It is anticipated that the results will be made known by Friday 10 November and ratified at the Bar Council meeting on Saturday 18 November 2017.

Further information regarding membership of Bar Council can be found in the Constitution, here. Alternatively, please email Elections@BarCouncil.org.uk with any queries you may have.
