This course, developed by our Equality, Diversity and Social Mobility Committee, will explore your legal and regulatory duties in relation to equality and diversity in chambers. You’ll learn through a series of case studies so you can feel confident applying the Bar Standards Board’s (BSB) rules on equality and diversity in chambers.

Who is this course for? 

Anyone with responsibility for implementing strategies and policies in chambers to promote equality and diversity at the Bar and respond to issues, including:  

  • Chambers’ equality and diversity officers
  • Heads of chambers 
  • Chambers professionals, practice managers and clerks 
  • Members of E&D or Management committee 

To join this course, we assume you have undertaken our introduction to equality and diversity course, or have a basic understanding of equality and diversity.  

What will I learn? 

  • You’ll leave with practical tools and techniques to implement and review systems in your chambers that promote equality and prevent discrimination 
  • How to plan effective action and set targets to comply with BSB rules 
  • Best practice when applying equality and diversity policies within chambers  
  • How to use work monitoring and practice reviews in your chambers  
  • Your legal and regulatory duties with respect to equality and diversity, including the Worker Protection Act 2023 
  • How to handle informal and formal complaints and how to report serious misconduct  

After the course 

  • You’ll know what processes and systems to set up in chambers to raise awareness, promote best practices in chambers and ensure you’re compliant with legislation and rules 
  • You’ll have access to our managing equality and diversity in chambers workbook available only to participants on our course, plus resources to help you build secure processes to ensure compliance with your legal responsibilities
