Welcome to the Bar Council’s Pupillage Fair and well done on taking this step towards your future career at the Bar.
Do make the most of everything the Pupillage Fair has to offer – target the chambers and organisations you are most interested in, talk to as many barristers as possible, attend the online and in-person seminars, and make sure you take advantage of the CV and application clinic.
We are delighted to host over 100 exhibitors covering all the different types of work. They are represented by barristers from those sets and organisations so it’s a great opportunity to talk to people who actually do the type of work you are interested in. And this year we’re really pleased to be welcoming more organisations than ever representing the employed Bar. The Inns of Court and vocational course providers will be on hand to talk about education and training options, and in the community area you can meet representatives from across the ecosystem of the Bar - supporting our diverse profession.
My top tip is to use your interactions at the Pupillage Fair to help you work out which area of work you want to do and why you want to do it – if you understand the area of work you’re interested in, that will shine through when it comes to making your pupillage applications.
The Bar Council is here to support you in your journey to the Bar and throughout your career. Find out more at barcouncil.org.uk/careers.
We look forward to meeting you at the Pupillage Fair and we hope you enjoy it.
Good luck!

The Inns of Court are key institutions for the Bar, and every barrister must be a member of one of them. There are four Inns - Gray's Inn, Inner Temple, Lincoln's Inn, and Middle Temple - and students join before beginning the vocational component of becoming a barrister. They have a central role in the education of young barristers and oversight over several parts of becoming a barrister. Additionally, they are also the Bar’s largest scholarship providers, awarding approximately £6m to aspiring barristers each year.
