Volunteer as a Mentor

The e-Mentoring Scheme gives barristers an opportunity to assist students as they take crucial decisions about their future. It is intended to help those from non-traditional backgrounds make the right decisions about higher education, and a future career in law.

A mentor is there to support the student, share knowledge and experiences of the profession, help address any expressed concerns, and assist the mentee in reaching their goals.

The Bar Council's Bar Mentoring Service will support mentors throughout the mentoring process by providing guidance of what to expect on the scheme, academic timetables and key deadlines to bear in mind e.g. UCAS Personal Statement deadline. If you have any concerns or difficulties, please email Mentoring@BarCouncil.org.uk

Application forms will be available online from Monday 4 July 2016.

We require mentors to provide:

  • personal details
  • practice details
  • a biography
  • a short character reference from either the Head of Chambers, Head of Pupillage, Senior Clerk/ Chief Executive/ Practice Manager.

If successful, you will receive an email from the Bar Mentoring Service. This email will include username and password verification so you can access the website.

Once your account has been activated, you will have access to your mentee's account where you can view their biography, and initiate contact.
