What you can do to support our campaign

Last updated: 20 May 2026

  1. Write to your MP
  2. Ask your MP to visit your local Crown Court
  3. Report the late delivery of prisoners to us

1. Write to your MP

We encourage you, barristers, to write to your local MP(s) to voice your concern on the curtailing of jury trials and ask them to raise this issue in Parliament on your behalf.

  1. Download our template letter to send to your MP (updated 19 May 2026)
  2. Find your MP via this website: Find your MP - MPs and Lords - UK Parliament
  3. Add the MP's address, and your address (so that your MP can identify you as a constituent)
  4. Edit the "Dear [name]" and body of the email in the highlighted sections
  5. Sign and send. We would appreciate it if you could cc [email protected] - this will allow us to track how many MPs have been contacted, and help with further Bar Council engagement.

2. Court visits

  • Invite your MP to visit a local Crown Court – we’ve had very positive feedback from the MPs who visited their local courts, and we can help you to arrange a visit for those who couldn’t attend. Email us at [email protected]

  • If you would like help getting in touch with your MP and arranging a visit, contact your Circuit Leader and please contact [email protected]

3. Report the late delivery of prisoners to us

Barristers across England and Wales repeatedly tell us that significant delays are caused by the late delivery of individuals in custody to the court room. If your case in the criminal, youth or family court has been delayed because of this – report it to us.

Every time you experience a delay, please tell us about it by filling in our dedicated prisoner delay form.
