Speak for Success
Speak for success is our new schools programme empowering young people aged 7 – 11 with essential oracy skills and confidence, preparing them to excel in any career path, including law.
Developing oracy skills in young people
We know that oracy is an important part of the national curriculum in England and Wales, teaching children to develop their spoken language skills to communicate effectively. Barristers demonstrate excellence in these skills in their daily lives – whether that’s forming a narrative, delivering well-structured arguments or using evidence and persuasive reasoning. We’ve worked with barristers, teachers and educational specialists to put together resources to support you with teaching this vital subject.
You’ll be able to download free resources including:
- Introductory PowerPoint presentation. Explore why oracy matters in every day life and careers - and how it’s a vital skill for barristers
- Flexible oracy-boosting activities. These can be used in a single lesson or over multiple sessions. Activities include ‘Tone twist’, ‘Question quest’, ‘Pass the plot’ – and more.
We’ve worked with teachers to develop these resources:
- “The barrister input brings it to life and makes it real…making the oracy work more engaging.” Key stage 2 teacher
- “These are a set of high-quality resources that would be easy to use and adapt within a classroom.’ Key stage 2 teacher
